For more than 7,000 years Falkland has provided people with shelter, food, livelihoods, recreation and a spiritual home – from hut circles and hill forts to the hunting grounds where Mary, Queen of Scots played ‘as a country girl in the parks and woods.’

Falkland Estate has a long, rich seam of history linked to power, royalty and elitism. Today Falkland Estate is pursuing an ambitious agenda to steward this place in ways that best serve the wellbeing of people and the environment.

We challenge the status quo of how land ownership, access and use are undertaken. We are committed to exploring ways of living that are just and fair, and have a positive impact – both locally and globally.

We actively learn from the past and from others, starting with our children – so that we can be a centre of stewardship, helping to create a just transition in Scotland, and further afield.

The activities of Falkland Estate are varied. They include providing a welcoming place for people to learn, play, create and celebrate together, employment and volunteering opportunities, farming and forestry operations, land management, conservation work, building maintenance, community and cultural events and produce sales. We are also actively involved in numerous Scottish, European and global education and knowledge exchange programmes.

Falkland Estate is currently in the ownership of the Stuart family and governed by Falkland Estate Trust (FET), with Falkland Rural Enterprises (Ltd) (FREL) managing the home farm and our orchard. Together with Falkland Stewardship Trust (FST) (a separately governed charity), our tenants and our partners, we strive to steward the land, foster connection and learn to work well together.
