Archaeology- new excavation dates for August 2022 announced. Register your interest now!
We are pleased to announce that agreement has been reached with Falkland Estate and with Aberdeen University to undertake a 7 day excavation on East Lomond this coming August.
Trust Chairman and Project Director Joe Fitzpatrick said : ‘We are delighted to be partnering with the team from Aberdeen led by Professor Gordon Noble in order to deliver a community archaeology project. Covid-19 and the unexpected loss of our colleague Dr Oliver O’Grady led to a pause in our programme but we embark now ona fresh chapter of exploration of this iconic hill’
The dig is planned for 1st to 7th August and anyone interested in participating is invited to register their interest before the 12th July by registering here – Archaeology expressions of interest.

There are two blocks available and volunteers should select one of these as a preference – either Monday – Wednesday (3 days) or Thursday – Sunday (4 days). Demand for places is likely to be high, so to be in with a chance of participating, please register your interest quickly. Excavation work can be demanding and tiring, so you should be physically fit, able to get up and down the hill easily, and be prepared to work as part of a team. Support and guidance will be provided for anyone who has no previous experience.
Once you have completed the form please return to admin@falklandestate.co.uk.
