Jo graduated with a degree in Fine Art 10 years ago, and has continued her exploration of nature and the interconnectedness and interdependence of all things on planet earth.
As a former nurse, she was fascinated to discover the similarities between humans and plant systems. The branching veins of leaves spreading nutrients; tree roots that could be mistaken for neural synapses; the basic structure of a cauliflower bearing a startling resemblance to that most mysterious of organs, the human brain. The more she explored the more connections she found.

Jo aimed to highlight these connections by drawing attention to the structure and detail of all plants. Immersing herself in nature, she found her own way to bring out the intricate beauty of what she found, by casting them in plaster.
She worked with clay to create moulds which she pressed her collected finds into. The resulting pieces preserve the detail and simplicity of her finds and allow them to be seen and appreciated as natural sculptures.
Jo’s work will be on display in our Gallery here at The Stables on Falkland Estate throughout March so pop along and check it out.
