There is a convenient way to buy local produce and make tried-and-tested recipes via the NeighbourFood Falkland weekly click-and-collect market.   Incorporate season products (especially when you are not sure what they are or how to pronounce their name!) in to crowd-pleasing meals for the family can be tricky! Well, not any more!

Thanks to funding through the Regional Food Fund via Scotland Food and Drink, Falkland’s newly established market offering local produce has a new Meal Kit product.  Ingredients have been carefully selected and packaged in to a convenient box for buyers to following the recipe card provided.  Recipe’s are developed by local chef Stella Colleluori (of Hatters in Newburgh).  Stella reviewed the available ingredients from the market suppliers and carefully created a meal made from ingredients of complementary textures and flavours.  Covered by the Courier recently, we look forward to what they have to say when they try it themselves.

Working with local suppliers is a delight, and bringing locally-sourced meals that make a difference to the local economy, environment and feed local people with food from their region is rewarding.  Doing this, however, has been a real challenge.  In a busy market-place with the noise and price-point competition from supermarkets, online convenience food boxes and, of course, people already have their regular buying habits.

We are confident that people will be delighted and proud of their local produce one they try the boxes.  It is all in the tasting!  Eat local, taste the world.  Our first meal kit brings amazing flavours of Mexico for ingredients grown and reared locally.  There is no better way to feed your family than with healthy, local ingredients.
