The ‘Devil’s Burden’ – a wide exposure of rocks and gravel on the southern flanks of West Lomond – is a quiet location nestled deep in the Lomond Hills Regional Park on all but one day of the year.
On the last Saturday in January, as many as 600 runners will participate in a race following a route set by Fife Athletics taking runners out to the Devil’s Burden.
Runners will register, start and finish on Falkland Estate. All runners and Fife Athletics officials are asked to park in a designated area for their event. Falkland Estate are hopeful that this minimises impact on non-event estate visitors on a day where vehicle access and footfall on and around the estate and village will be higher than it would be otherwise.
No mean feat in terms of exertion levels, this race will take participants to parts of the estate and beyond not ventured by many. So here are some images for those of us who are less likely to don the running shoes and splash through the mud, tramp up hilly tracks and out in to the wilderness.
Good luck to all runners. Please take plenty memories and leave only footsteps at Falkland Estate.
