Paintings and Textile Art by Heather McConnell

In 2016 Heather attained a City and Guilds in Textiles under the excellent guidance of Sheila Mortlock (@sheilamortlockartist). The course involved exploring ideas and experimenting with materials and techniques which were recorded in sketch books for each project. From this Heather has developed her skills in using printing as a background for hand and free machine stitching. Many pieces are inspired by her sketches or paintings of the natural environment.

Last year she had the privilege of seeing the interior of Falkland House on a guided tour led by the very knowledgeable Marietta Crichton Stuart. For this exhibition Heather has focused on the interior of the house, the amazing grounds of the estate and the history of the fascinating previous owner, Margaret Tyndall Bruce (c1781-1861), who commissioned the building of Falkland house.
