Response by Room 003 opens on August 2nd in The Stables Gallery at Falkland Estate and continues to the end of the month. This is their first exhibition as a group and is a result of their sketchbook collaboration, a project that’s not finished yet and may never finish! Room 003 is a group of four like-minded but totally different women artists and makers who have been working together regularly since early 2022. They all have a strong interest in their environment and landscape, and deep connections to Fife.

Lise Bech, basketmaker of international repute whose work has just been selected for the Scottish Arts Trust Landscape Awards 2023. She describes her work as a conversation between maker and materials – most often Scottish-grown willow, here with novel woven bark pouches. Her inspiration comes from the landscape, natural world and her glorious garden.

Jan Hendry, a mixed media artist whose work explores materials and their origins, using earth pigments, watercolours and collage. Having worked in 2D and 3D for many years, she is most interested in the dialogue between people, materials and each other, and creative activities that connect us with our natural and cultural heritage.

Tess Darwin, textile artist, whose work is mainly inspired by daily walks in the forest around Falkland. She works slowly by hand, using worn and discarded materials as much as possible. She has developed a new body of work in response to the sketchbook collaboration, as well as recent travels.

.

Jannette MacDonald, a printmaker and photographer. She is busy exploring new creative processes while studying for BA Fine Art at the University of the Highlands and Islands (she has fallen in love with charcoal!). One of her prints in this exhibition recently made the longlist for the Scottish Arts Trust Landscape Awards 2023.
