Falkland Estate has a diverse landscape resulting in varied habitats from insects to deer. With the diversity of low lying organic farmland, to woodland and hillside heather, the wildlife is varied and a real treat to see. Please respect the land and the wildlife and any lucky photo captures of wildlife at Falkland Estate can be shared on social media.

The woodland is a mosaic of conifer plantation and native broadleaf of varied ages where roe deer, badger, fox, and red squirrel are common. On higher ground on the Lomond Hills where there is heather moor, many ground nesting birds can be found such as meadow pipits, skylarks and grouse. Waders feed on the upland bog and loch shores.

On the low open farmland many finches and swallows can be found feeding in the summer months. Organic farming allows for a great diversity in insect life and supports many small mammals, kestrels, buzzards, and tawny owls.

The narrow waterways and quiet pools of the upper Eden are full of frogs, newts and occasionally attracting otters and heron.
