A half-day immersive experience to explore the place and history that makes Falkland Estate. You are invited to enjoy this historical estate – the original Royal Hunting Ground of the Stewart Monarchs – where Mary Queen of Scots learned and fell in love with Falconry.

Giving rise to the (now much loved) Palace being built, this land has long been used a recreational space, a place to play, and to learn in.

Enjoy the experience, benefit from the stories told by a dedicated walking guide, and be treated to a drink and a scone at the beautiful Garden Café looking on to the iconic East Lomond Hill.

Description

Whether you are a seasoned visitor to Falkland Estate or have never been before, this walk offers something for all.

Lead by a dedicated guide you will take in amazing scenery and the peacefulness of the place.   Our experienced walking guide  promises to show you lesser-known routes and the delightful sights and discoveries that offers.

You will see heritage buildings such as the roofless chapel and Tyndall-Bruce monument and historical locations such as Maidens Castle.  You will enjoy lesser-trodden paths on routes with views on to Maspie Den.   Discover the historically significant ‘Trenches’. Find a special spot visited only by the few.

Enjoy a wonderful walk and get lowdown on the history and heritage of this original Royal Hunting Ground – the land that brought the palace to Falkland.

If that wasn’t enough, enjoy a hot drink and scone included with your booking.

Spaces are limited to a maximum of 10.  Two time-slots: 10am-1.00pm, and 1.30pm-4.30pm (out of stock).

Things to know:

  • Walk will be 2 to 2 and half hours long and will be of reasonable pace
  • Coffee and scone served BEFORE THE WALK (10am for the morning session; 1.3opm for the afternoon session)
  • Wear comfortable footwear and clothing suitable for the weather
  • Bring water to stay hydrated out on the walk
  • No dogs are permitted on these guided walks. You may encounter other dogs whilst walking on Falkland Estate
  • Car parking is available at either the Stables Car park (adjacent to the Stables Building, accessed through the village) and at the Forest of Falkland entrance (off the A912 – there is a short walk signposted to the Stables Building from here)
  • In the case of severe weather, the walk will be rescheduled
