Theresa Gourlay (Artist)

I studied Drawing and Painting at DJCA, Dundee  from 1977 -1982 and taught Art and Design in schools from 1987 – 2018. Since retiring from teaching I have been drawing and painting full time. I have painted the

landscapes in this exhibition from small sketches made on my walks locally.  I use biros and fineliners and maybe a bit of colour for the sketches. I make the larger pieces in the studio with bright coloured ink creating the harmonies and discords, that describe the lie of the land, the

weather and the light. I layer coloured ink and gesso, creating different hues, I add coloured pencil, chalk, paint – whatever will work to enhance detail, texture or movement. I am lucky to live in such a beautiful place!
