PROPOSED CAR AND COACH PARKING DEVELOPMENT

For many years there have been discussions and appetite across local community groups to improve access, parking and flow in and around Falkland.  Community engagement activities including a Charette process held in 2018, and subsequent discussions, funding applications and consultations across a range of stakeholder groups, have consistently identified the need and desire for additional car parking and dedicated coach parking provision to ease the strain on the centre of this historic village.

Falkland village benefits from a thriving community of residents, small businesses, the Palace (managed by NTS), wide open spaces across Falkland Estate, a local primary school active within the community, many voluntary art and sports groups and more.  Many, if not all, will be aware of – or have been involved in – discussion processes such as the Charette.

As landowner, Falkland Estate Trust is in discussions with National Trust for Scotland and the Community Council about ways of improving access for cars and buses – and with NTS will be presenting initial design proposals at the event on 26/10 (see below) – and committed to full public scrutiny and consultation.

More information in line with planning processes, and to engage and inform local residents, groups and businesses, will be released in due course. An open session will be held on Wednesday 26 October – people are invited to drop-in anytime between 2-7pm to hear more about the development plans.  Exhibitors sharing information and looking for your comments, questions and input include National Trust for Scotland (NTS), Falkland Estate, Scotch Whisky Investments (SWI), Falkland and Newton of Falkland Community Council, and Falkland Community Development Trust.
