Falkland Estate’s future
My family, who currently own Falkland Estate, through a private estate trust, have decided to move the ownership of Falkland Estate beyond our family in order to promote the wellbeing & sustainability of this land and its people.
This follows years of early-stage work that many people have contributed to.
So we have recently initiated formal discussions with Falkland Stewardship Trust (the charity that has cared for landscape and buildings at the heart of the estate with a strong focus on community engagement since 1994) to explore the possibilities of the charity taking on ownership.
A successful succession will require a significant investment in: future planning; raising funds to invest in housing and other needs; and active engagement with estate tenants, staff, volunteers, families and communities who live on, or near the estate,. Such a transition will take a few years.
Falkland Estate and Falkland Stewardship Trust will be posting updates and directly in touch with relevant stakeholders in coming weeks. If you have specific feedback, please email (using the email heading Ownership Transition) to enquiries@falklandestate.co.uk
During this process, we are keen to hear and engage with diverse ideas on how enhance the way we: grow food and trees; provide more sustainable housing; play, learn and work together for the future of this beautiful place. Watch this space for opportunities to have your say, and see or listen to what others come up with.
